LEWES, Del. - Labor Day weekend is upon us and it's expected to be a record breaking travel weekend.
Record breaking travel could mean an increase of people visiting the First State to visit Lewes and Rehoboth Beach, two areas in the state that attract lots of visitors.Ā
Local businesses in Lewes are preparing for the influx of people they expect to see this weekend.Ā
Surf Bagel's Director of Operations, Wes Books, told CoastTV he and his team are prepared for the busy holiday weekend. "We've been preparing for the last couple, I'd say months, to be honest. So we've got plenty of staff and extra staff this weekend," said Books. "So we're prepared. We're locked and loaded, ready to go."
Tim Southerst and his wife own Lewes Gourmet and PUZZLES. Southerst says every Labor Day weekend is different, yet always busy. He says regardless of how busy it is, he's looking forward to closing out the summer with new and old visitors.Ā
"Labor Day is obviously one of the key moments of the year. What makes it a little bit interesting is it's the end of one season," said Southerst.
"We celebrate all of the goodness of summer, but at the same time start turning our attention to what comes next and the different season."Ā
