Milford police offer free event on mental health crisis response

Milford Police are helping the community understand what to expect when they call for help. The department’s Behavioral Health Unit is teaming up with the National Alliance on Mental Illness Delaware to host a free educational event on Sunday, June 2, focused on when to call 911 or 988 during a mental health crisis.

MILFORD, Del. - Milford Police are helping the community understand what to expect when they call for help. The department’s Behavioral Health Unit is teaming up with the National Alliance on Mental Illness Delaware to host a free educational event on Sunday, June 2, focused on when to call 911 or 988 during a mental health crisis.

The agency is hosting the event to center the conversation around mental health crises and response. It will take place in the community room at the Milford Police Department, located at 401 NE Front Street, Milford. No registration is required.

According to the department, the event will cover:

  • The difference between calling 911 and 988

  • Who to ask for, depending on the situation

  • The department’s co-responder unit

The Behavioral Health Unit will also conduct a free Narcan training in partnership with Partners in Public Safety Solutions.
