OCEAN CITY Md.- The Town of Ocean City has officially named Raymond J. Austin as the new Chief of Police for the Ocean City Police Department. Austin is scheduled to be sworn in by the Mayor and City Council during the regularly scheduled council meeting on May 5.

With more than three decades of experience in law enforcement, Austin began his career in 1991 as a seasonal officer. He transitioned to full-time status in 1994 and has since held a range of leadership positions within the department, including Commander of the Criminal Investigation Division, Patrol Lieutenant, and head of several specialty units.

In 2013, Austin completed the prestigious 254th Session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Academy, further cementing his qualifications for top leadership.

After retiring from OCPD in 2022, Austin continued to serve the community as a Special Investigator with the Worcester County State's Attorney's Office. Now returning as Chief, Austin aims to prioritize public safety, accountability, and strong community partnerships.

The announcement comes shortly after the Ocean City Fire Department revealed the retirement of longtime Fire Chief Richard Bowers. In response, city officials have appointed Joshua J. Bunting III as Acting Fire Chief and Joseph E. Sexauer as Acting Fire Marshal for the 2025 season.
