Rehoboth Avenue repaving starting later than expected

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- The scheduled repaving of Rehoboth Avenue is pushed back.

The project was initially set to begin this fall, but now the city says the project will now begin some time in early 2024.

The project is a joint effort of the city of Rehoboth Beach and DelDOT. Public works director Kevin Williams says DelDOT is still figuring out the details with contracts- and the city cannot begin without them.

"DelDOT needs to get the contract package ready," he said. "It's got to be advertised and do all those administrative things. And then we're kind of at their mercy as to when they get that ready to go."

The the fall timeframe for the project had some business owners on the Avenue a bit worried. One of those business owners is Carl Miller at Pet Wants, who is relieved to hear the paving was pushed back.

"I think its really good news for business owners here- even the residents too," he said. "We get so much of an influx, although it's still off season around October, November and even December, it's still pretty busy."

Rehoboth Avenue hasn't been repaved since 2005.
