Second Street Players presents The Secret Garden this July. (Second Street Players)

MILFORD, Del. - The Second Street Players will be holding auditions for their summer production of the musical The Secret Garden on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5 at 6 p.m. at the Riverfront Theater.

The Second Street Players say interested auditioners should prepare one minute of a musical theatre song that best showcases their voice in a style similar to the show. Auditioners must bring sheet music in the key they plan to sing in for the accompanist to read. A CD or Bluetooth playing an accompaniment-only music track is also acceptable. A cappella auditions are discouraged. Auditions will also consist of reading directly from the script.

The show will consist of 25 actors, ages 10 and up. Rehearsals will begin April 15, and preference will be given to auditioners who will be available the entire rehearsal period. Cast members should be available for both technical rehearsals taking place from July 6-10 and for all performance dates from July 11-13 and 18-20.

Directed by David Button and John H. Hulse, this re-imagined musical adaptation of the original children's literature follows the story of Mary Lennox, a 10-year-old girl who was orphaned in India, returns to Yorkshire to live with her bitter uncle, Archibald, and his son, Colin, at their estate. A tale about forgiveness and renewal, the estate's magical garden beckons children with haunting melodies and spirits from Mary's past who guide her though her new life.

The Secret Garden is a part of the Second Street players production lineup for their 2025 season, which has previously featured shows this year including One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in February and Peter Pan and Wendy which ran in March.

Interested auditioners can visit their website for character descriptions. Those who are unable to attend the audition but are interested in auditioning or being part of the production crew, may contact John Hulse at 302-245-4147.

This production is supported by the Delaware Division of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
