Neighborhood watch sign in Ellendale

ELLENDALE, Del. - The Town of Ellendale's Police and Emergency Response Committee will be meeting tonight at 7 p.m. One of their agenda items is to address the new Neighborhood Watch Committee.

This committee has been in the works as far back as September 2023.Ā

Over the last few months, there have been a number of arrests in Ellendale and involving Ellendale residents. Some of these arrests were for murder, sexual abuse of a minorĀ and shootings.Ā

Lowell Miller has lived in Ellendale for 16 years. He said he's had his fair share of experiences over the years dealing with crime in the area.

"At times, we have shootings and little break ins. I've lost things a number of years ago where people just went into my shed and stole things like a bike, saws and things like that."

As new neighborhood watch signs go up around the town, Miller says he hopes people notice it because he knows "in the past there have been drug sales" behind his house.

Another man who lives in Ellendale did not want to give his name or be on camera, but told CoastTV that he believes there is a new gang along S. Old State Road near the Delaware Solid Waste Authority that is distributing drugs into the community.

This has not been confirmed by the Ellendale Police Department.Ā

Ellendale Police Chief, Bruce Von Goerres, says he's working to secure the resources needed to tackle in the area. "We're going to be putting in for some violent crime money through the state," said Von Goerres. "We actually have a meeting tomorrow in Dover."
