DAGSBORO, Del. - Emergency crews from multiple fire companies responded Sunday evening to a water rescue in Indian River Bay after two people became stranded on a jet ski near Holts Landing State Park.

The incident was reported at approximately 7:46 p.m. on June 8. A jet ski with two people aboard was seen in distress, waving for help amid rough conditions.

The Millville Fire Company led the response, assisted by crews from Indian River, Dagsboro and Bethany Beach fire companies. The Delaware State Fire Police, Sussex County paramedics, DNREC Marine Police and Park Rangers and the U.S. Coast Guard Indian River Squadron also assisted.

Indian River’s marine units were launched from two locations: 80 Marine 2 from the White House Beach ramp, and 80 Marine 1 from Pot Nets Bayside. Marine crews from companies 70, 73, 80 and 84 received coordinated assignments from the 84 Incident Command.

The jet ski, described as white, blue and black, was located by Marine 84 with one person still aboard and the other in the water. Both people and the jet ski were safely retrieved and returned to shore according to first responders.
