DEWEY BEACH, Del. - After three years of planning, Dewey Beach has officially broken ground on a new three-story town hall that will also house the town’s police department and its first-ever EMS station will go in place of the old town hall location.
The new town hall will be built on a lot next to the current town hall and police station on Rodney Avenue. Once completed, the building will face Coastal Highway.

Town Manager Bill Zolper said the addition of an EMS station within town limits will improve emergency response times. Currently, emergency medical teams respond from the Midway area. With EMS based in Dewey, Zolper estimates response times could be cut in half.
"We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel," Zolper said.
The project comes with a price tag of $11.4 million, but town officials say it won’t require any new taxes. Funding is being covered through a combination of state grants, county grants, and Dewey’s existing reserves.
Construction is scheduled to begin on May 5.
