Milton House Demolition

The house was the final demolition on the property before it becomes a new development.

MILTON, Del. - An old house at the corner of Cave Neck Road and Route 1 was in the process of being torn down Friday. The house was the final demolition on the property before it becomes a new development.

Chappell Farm, approved for both commercial and residential development at the intersection, will call this piece of land home. According to the $9.95 million listing, the approved site plan includes three commercial pad sites totaling 44,498 square feet with parking, as well as space for up to 128 multifamily residential units. The plans for Chappell Farm were approved in June 2021.

Donald Macauley lives in Milton and told CoastTV there are too many homes being added along the coast based on the foot traffic that is already here. "We don't need any more homes. And I know that the state and the town make more money. We have. Come on. I mean, we're going to get hemmed in pretty soon. You're not going to be able- we don't make it down to the shore," Macauley said.

Previously, a local barbecue food truck, produce stand and outdoor furniture store was on the property.

Bill Sharp has no issue with a new development being added, and emphasized the importance of a big community with people and places around it. "60, 70 years ago we had to go to the Salisbury, Dover, maybe even Wilmington to buy anything in wintertime. But now we got everything close by. So I, I like it. I have no problem with the development," Sharp said.

Earlier in the week, another house in Milton was moved for the future development of a Royal Farms at the corner of Union Street Extended and Route 16.
