DELMARVA -- After a damp start to the weekend, Sunday afternoon across the peninsula brings a break from precipitation but not the overcast skies. While clouds remain dominant, there’s a modest chance for some sunshine to break through late in the day. Temperatures will climb into the upper 50s and low 60s, offering a seasonably mild close to the weekend.
Milder and some breaks in the clouds as we see temperatures rise to 60.
By Sunday night, an upper-level ridge begins to push into the region, setting the stage for a tranquil stretch heading into Monday. Overnight temperatures will settle into the upper 30s to mid 40s under mostly cloudy skies.
Warm start to the week, a series of cold fronts bring below normal temperatures midweek.
Monday ushers in a noticeable warm-up, driven by southerly flow and a warm front lifting north of the area. Highs will reach the 60s to near 70 degrees across much of Delmarva, although skies will remain mostly cloudy.
Conditions begin to change late Monday afternoon into the evening as a cold front approaches from the west. This system is expected to bring scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, most likely after sunset. The threat for severe weather remains limited, with only a 10% probability of stronger storms according to current forecast models. Rain and storms should taper off from northwest to southeast by daybreak Tuesday.
Tuesday will be dry but brisk, as a second—much drier—cold front passes through the area. Highs will hover in the upper 50s to mid 60s under a mix of sun and clouds. Westerly winds will increase through the afternoon, with gusts reaching 30 to 35 mph at times.
Looking ahead, high pressure dominates the midweek pattern, bringing a stretch of mostly sunny and cool days from Wednesday through Friday. Temperatures will run 5 to 10 degrees below normal during this period, and overnight frost or freeze conditions may be possible, especially in inland or sheltered locations.
By Friday night into Saturday, the next system is poised to approach the region, bringing Delmarva’s next chance for rainfall. Ahead of this disturbance, temperatures are expected to gradually moderate and even climb above normal into next weekend.
