DELMARVA - Sussex County residents can expect a changeable weather pattern as a cold front sweeps across the area Thursday, triggering showers and thunderstorms before drier air arrives overnight.

Early Thursday morning is forecast to start quietly, with partly sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s. As the day progresses, a strong cold front will dive in from the northwest, interacting with warm, humid air and creating favorable conditions for thunderstorm development.

According to the National Weather Service, storms could begin to form during the afternoon hours, particularly across northern portions of the region where instability will be greatest. While the strongest storms are expected north of Philadelphia, parts of Delaware could still see gusty winds, locally heavy rain, and brief downpours as the line of storms drifts southeast. High temperatures Thursday will reach the mid to upper 80s, and a few spots could briefly touch 90 degrees before clouds build in.

As the cold front progresses toward the coast by Thursday evening, storm coverage will diminish with the loss of daytime heating. By late Thursday night, skies are expected to clear across most of Sussex County, and temperatures will drop into the low to mid-60s. Patchy fog may form in low-lying areas toward daybreak Friday.

Friday morning will feature tranquil weather conditions as high pressure settles over the Mid-Atlantic. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, light winds, and pleasant temperatures to start the day.
