DELMARVA -- A stretch of spring perfection as high pressure builds across the region, setting the tone for a bright and breezy Mother’s Day weekend.
Saturday afternoon brings wall-to-wall sunshine and clear blue skies, with inland highs in the low to mid-70s and upper 60s to low 70s along the coastal areas. Gusty northwest winds—possibly reaching up to 35 mph—will accompany the dry air, creating a refreshing feel without any threat of rain.

A weak cold front is expected to slide through late Saturday night into early Mother’s Day morning, but it will be moisture-starved and is not expected to bring any impacts to the region. Overnight lows will dip into the mid to upper 40s and low 50s.
Mother’s Day itself will be spectacular, thanks to a ridge of high pressure that continues to build over the Mid-Atlantic. Sunshine will dominate, with only occasional cloudiness from an upper-level low to the southwest. Temperatures inland will rise into the mid to upper 70s, with some locations approaching 80 degrees. Coastal areas will stay slightly cooler but still enjoy a pleasant spring day.

Overnight conditions remain calm and seasonable into Sunday night, with temperatures again falling into the upper 40s and low 50s. Monday continues the dry and mild trend, but changes begin to brew as high pressure slips offshore Monday night.
By late Monday night into Tuesday, a slow-moving low-pressure system from the southwest begins to approach Delmarva. This will usher in a more unsettled stretch of weather through the middle and end of next week. Forecast models suggest the bulk of the rainfall will occur Tuesday night into Wednesday, with periods of scattered showers and possibly thunderstorms lingering through Friday.
Another closed off low could bring multi-day threat of showers and storms next week.
Delmarva may see between 20% and 40% chances of receiving at least one inch of rain in a 24-hour period next week, especially across southern portions of the peninsula. While rainfall may be beneficial for some areas, it will likely interrupt outdoor plans midweek. Temperatures are expected to remain near or slightly above normal despite the cloud cover.
