DELMARVA -- On Saturday, temperatures are expected to climb into the mid to upper 80s across the region, with a few inland areas potentially reaching the 90s. Combined with dew points in the low to mid-60s, the heat and humidity will make for an uncomfortable afternoon.

Saturday Daypart

Warm Saturday nearing the mid to upper 80s, humidity levels will drop through the evening.

As a vigorous upper-level disturbance pivots eastward from the Great Lakes and a surface low tracks across Ontario and Quebec, a strong cold front will move through Delmarva late Saturday. Good news is dew points will begin falling through the evening as the humidity pushes off the coast.

By Saturday night, the cold front will move offshore, and cooler drier air moves in as temperatures begin to fall into the 50s and 60s.

In stark contrast to Saturday’s heat and storms, Sunday promises to be the better half of the weekend. As the upper-level trough exits and high pressure builds in from the west, skies will be partly to mostly cloudy, humidity will drop, and temperatures will settle into the 70s. One trade-off: breezy conditions are expected, with gusts reaching 30-35 mph due to a tightening pressure gradient between departing and incoming systems. Winds will ease Sunday night under mostly clear skies.

Drier air builds in the second half of the weekend through early next week.

By Monday, high pressure will be firmly in place over the Mid-Atlantic, and temperatures will remain near seasonal averages with dry weather and light winds continuing into Tuesday.

The tranquil weather pattern may be short-lived. Forecast models suggest a deepening upper trough will move into the Northeast by midweek, potentially spawning a coastal low that could bring rain to the region.

While details remain uncertain, rain chances increase beginning Tuesday night and continue into Wednesday and Thursday. For now, confidence remains modest, with forecasters assigning a 30 to 50 percent chance of precipitation.

Temperatures will trend below average from Tuesday onward as Delmarva settles under the influence of the broad upper trough.
