DELMARVA -- Sunday will bring a welcomed break from recent unsettled weather for Delmarva, with fair skies and cooler-than-average temperatures for late May. Winds will be lighter than previous days, mostly around 10 mph, with occasional gusts up to 20 mph. High temperatures are expected to reach the upper 60s to low 70s across the region.

This calm weather is courtesy of a high-pressure system building in from the north and west, while a departing low continues moving into the Canadian Maritimes. The high pressure will continue to strengthen into Sunday night and Monday, keeping much of the region dry. However, a weak disturbance passing to the south that could bring a slight chance of showers—roughly 20 to 30 percent—to portions of Delmarva overnight Sunday.
Rain chances really increase into Wednesday as periods of rain are possible.
Memorial Day is shaping up to be a pleasant one, with partly to mostly sunny skies and mild temperatures. Most inland areas will see highs in the low to mid 70s, while coastal zones may remain slightly cooler due to a developing sea breeze. Winds will be light, allowing for comfortable outdoor conditions through much of the day.

By Monday night, the high pressure begins to retreat eastward ahead of the next approaching weather system. Conditions should stay dry through Tuesday, though mid- and high-level clouds will increase as the day progresses. Lows Monday night will range from the mid 40s to mid 50s, and highs Tuesday will once again sit in the low to mid 70s.
The weather pattern becomes more active beginning Tuesday night, as an upper-level trough and associated low pressure system begin moving in from the Midwest. While there is some disagreement among weather models, at least some rain is likely overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Some forecasts suggest a brief round of showers Tuesday night followed by a drying trend Wednesday, while others support a more prolonged unsettled period lasting through midweek.
Additional showers and possible thunderstorms may develop later Thursday as a cold front approaches, followed by lingering chances of rain into next weekend as another upper-level low settles into the region. Although rain is not expected all day every day, Delmarva should be prepared for multiple rounds of scattered showers, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
