DELMARVA - A cold front moving through the region Thursday night will bring periods of rain, followed by gusty winds as low pressure strengthens offshore, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain showers are expected to increase late Thursday afternoon and continue into the evening, with some areas seeing moderate to heavy rainfall at times. While thunderstorms are not anticipated, an occasional lightning strike cannot be ruled out. Rain will taper off overnight as the front moves eastward.
Winds will pick up behind the front, with gusts reaching 30-40 mph along the coast on Friday. Cooler air will filter into the region, with temperatures dropping into the 30s by Friday night.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday will bring milder temperatures with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s, but another cold front is expected to pass through later in the day. Sunday will be cooler and breezy, though mostly sunny.
The next system will approach on Monday, bringing another round of showers, with unsettled conditions persisting into early next week.
