DELMARVA -- A raw and damp Saturday afternoon as a coastal low lingers offshore, bringing persistent clouds, breezy conditions, and scattered showers. While the system will gradually move away later Saturday and into Saturday night, a nearby upper-level trough and continued northeasterly flow will keep the chance for showers in play through the day.
Gray, damp and raw Saturday on Delmarva with a few spotty showers and drizzle through the evening.
Skies will remain mostly cloudy with temperatures struggling to climb out of the 40s, making for a chilly and damp afternoon. Overnight lows will fall into the mid to upper 30s. Rainfall amounts are expected to total around an additional quarter inch or less on Saturday.
By Sunday, the weather begins to improve as the coastal system pulls farther northeast, allowing drier air to move in. Some breaks of sunshine are possible by the afternoon, and temperatures will rise into the mid-50s, offering a brief respite from the gloom.
Monday looks to be the nicest day in the extended forecast as high pressure settles in, accompanied by warming westerly winds. Afternoon highs will reach into the 60s across much of the region, and some inland spots could flirt with the 70-degree mark.
However, the pleasant stretch won’t last long. A pair of cold fronts are expected to sweep through the area between Tuesday and Wednesday. The first front, arriving Tuesday morning, won’t bring a major change in temperatures, allowing highs to remain in the 60s for most, with 50s possible in the far northwest. Light rain is possible both days, with a 20 to 30 percent chance of showers.
Behind the second front, cooler and drier air will settle in by Wednesday. Highs will be knocked down into the 50s across the board, with frost or freeze concerns developing Wednesday night as lows dip into the 30s. Most of the Delmarva region will fall under frost or freeze conditions, except for far northern and higher elevation areas.
Thursday is expected to be dry with slightly warmer temperatures as we approach Holy Weekend.
