DELMARVA -- A picture-perfect Mother’s Day weekend is in store for Delmarva, starting Saturday with bright blue skies and comfortable spring temperatures as high pressure takes control of the region’s weather pattern.
Saturday will feature mostly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 70s.
Saturday begins a run of spectacular conditions with highs reaching the low to mid-70s inland and upper 60s to low 70s along the coast. Winds will pick up through the late morning and afternoon, with gusts out of the northwest potentially reaching 35 mph. Despite the wind, the sun will shine nearly uninterrupted from sunrise to sunset.
Temperatures to near 80 degrees as we go into Mother's Day.
A weak, moisture-starved cold front will sweep across the peninsula Saturday night into early Sunday. It’s not expected to bring any rain, just a subtle drop in temperatures overnight, settling in the mid to upper 40s and low 50s.
Rain chances increase as we go into Tuesday of next week.
On Mother’s Day Sunday, high pressure quickly reasserts itself over the region, ensuring another day of mostly sunny skies. Inland highs are forecast to climb into the mid to upper 70s, with some areas flirting with 80 degrees. Coastal locations will remain slightly cooler but still pleasant. An upper-level low to the southwest may introduce some patchy cloudiness, but it won’t spoil the day.
Sunday night will remain calm, with lows dipping once again into the upper 40s and low 50s. This calm won’t last long, however, as the next weather-maker begins to approach from the southwest.
By late Monday night, showers begin creeping into the region, signaling a shift to a more unsettled pattern. The bulk of the rainfall is expected between Tuesday night and Wednesday, though lingering scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms could persist through Friday. Forecast models suggest a 20-40% chance of at least one inch of rain in a 24-hour period across parts of Delmarva, which could help replenish dry areas but may also dampen outdoor plans.
Temperatures through the middle and latter part of next week are projected to remain near or slightly above seasonal norms, though the persistent cloud cover and rain chances may limit daytime warmth at times.
