DELMARVA -- A brief spell of sunshine returns to the region Sunday before a series of weather systems bring periods of rain and potentially wintry precipitation through midweek.

Brunchcast

Cold start but plenty of sunshine through your Sunday afternoon.

Sunday starts off mostly sunny as high pressure moves overhead, shifting offshore by late morning. Afternoon cloud cover will increase ahead of an approaching low pressure system, but dry conditions are expected to hold through the day. Highs will be cooler than recent days, topping out in the upper 40s along the coast and into the lower to mid-50s inland.

By Sunday night, a warm front lifts northward across Delmarva. As a result, temperatures rise slightly overnight, reversing the typical drop. Early nighttime lows in the low 30s to low 40s are expected before scattered showers arrive from west to east late overnight.

Monday brings a brief warmup with highs in the low 60s. Winds will initially have a southerly component but will shift to the west by early afternoon following the passage of a cold front. A period of moderate rain is likely midday into the afternoon.

Monday Afternoon Rain

Moderate to brief downpour possible Monday afternoon.

Tuesday turns cooler in the wake of that front, with highs in the mid-50s under drier conditions.

By Tuesday night, another low pressure system slides in from the west, bringing renewed chances for precipitation. Forecast models vary on the details, but current guidance suggests the possibility of some rain Tuesday night into early Wednesday.

Looking ahead, conditions quiet down Thursday through Saturday as high pressure and upper-level ridging return. High temperatures will gradually climb each day, reaching into the 60s and 70s across the area by the end of the week.
