Tropical-like airmass is back, tracking hot and humid air right through the end of the week.

DELMARVA -- Tropical airmass returns to Delmarva, after a few morning showers and downpours will have partly sunny skies.

Through the afternoon he greatest chance for showers and thunderstorms will be across northern portions of Delmarva. While not every community will receive heavy rain, storms could repeatedly move over the same locations, producing localized rainfall totals of more than one inch.

Average rainfall amounts across the peninsula are expected to range from one-quarter to one-half inch. However, heavier downpours and training storms could lead to flash flooding, especially during the afternoon.

The Weather Prediction Center has placed Delmarva under a Marginal Risk, Level 1 out of 4, for excessive rainfall today.

Daypart Forecast

Partly sunny skies, warm and muggy highs in the mid to upper 80s, isolated shower possible.

Humidity will also increase as southerly winds push dew points into the lower and middle 70s. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the middle and upper 80s, with heat index values reaching the upper 80s and lower 90s.

Temperatures will rise into the low 90s late week into the weekend.

A prolonged stretch of hot and humid weather is expected across Delmarva during the second half of the week and into the weekend.

Southwesterly winds will develop as the peninsula becomes positioned between high pressure over the western Atlantic and a slow-moving upper-level trough across the northern United States and southern Canada.

Daily high temperatures are expected to reach the lower 90s Thursday through the weekend. With dew points between 70 and 75 degrees, heat index values could reach or exceed 100 degrees across much of Delmarva.

Residents and visitors should limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water and never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.
