Friends, family and local police gathered Monday to honor Officer Chad Spicer, who was killed in the line of duty on September 1, 2009.

The Georgetown community will gather today for a wreath-laying ceremony honoring fallen Georgetown Police Department Officer Chad Spicer. This year’s remembrance comes as the town continues discussion over plans of restoring Spicer’s memorial. 

A Maryland man is behind bars after police say he kidnapped another man in Georgetown on the morning of May 3 and drove him to Seaford, where the victim later escaped.

The Georgetown Police Department is offering advice to locals on how to protect themselves from credit card skimming scams after a device was recently found at El Mercado on Layton Avenue.

According to police, the scam works like this: an individual receives a package with their address on the label, but there is no clear information about who sent it or where it came from. Common items include jewelry, Bluetooth speakers, and other small items.

Additional fencing has been added to the Sandhill Fields sports complex. This project was completed following a break-in on Aug. 4.

Georgetown Police are investigating a crash that left a young man critically injured in the parking lot of Sussex Academy. The incident occurred on July 26, around 8:53 PM.

Georgetown is gearing up for a night of community fun and engagement with its annual National Night Out event. Scheduled for August 10th from 6 to 8 PM, the festivities will take place at the Richard Allen School.

The Georgetown Police Department is currently investigating a crash that happened at approximately 2 a.m. on July 13th at the Georgetown Circle.
