DELMARVA - A largely quiet stretch of weather is expected across the coastal communities from Lewes and Rehoboth Beach south through Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island and Ocean City, Md., from early Wednesday morning through early Thursday morning.

Patchy fog could develop around daybreak Wednesday, especially in areas that received rain Tuesday. Any fog that forms should be localized and gradually dissipate after sunrise.

High pressure building across the region will bring mostly sunny skies through much of Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to be seasonable for late August, with warm afternoon conditions inland and somewhat cooler readings along the immediate coast.

Humidity levels should remain relatively comfortable compared with what is expected later in the week. Winds will generally be light, making Wednesday a favorable day for beach activities, travel and other outdoor plans across southern Delaware and the lower Delmarva Peninsula.

Conditions should remain dry through Wednesday evening as clouds gradually begin to increase ahead of an approaching cold front.

By late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, the weather pattern will begin to change. A stronger cold front moving toward Delmarva is expected to bring increasing moisture and a greater chance of showers and thunderstorms later Thursday.

Most of the more widespread rain and thunderstorm activity is expected after daybreak Thursday, but an isolated shower cannot be ruled out toward early Thursday morning as the front draws closer.

Thursday is expected to become the more active weather day, with multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms possible during the afternoon and evening. Forecasters are also monitoring the potential for locally heavy rainfall and isolated severe storms.

Residents and visitors in Sussex County, including Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island, as well as Ocean City, should take advantage of Wednesday’s quieter conditions while continuing to monitor the forecast for Thursday.
