DELMARVA - A stretch of mild, springlike weather is on tap for Sussex County from Friday morning through early Sunday, as warm air surges northward and high pressure shifts offshore.

Friday morning kicks off with partly sunny skies and quickly rising temperatures. A warm front lifting through the Mid-Atlantic will bring in noticeably milder air, with high temperatures peaking near or above 70 degrees inland by mid-afternoon. Coastal areas will remain a bit cooler, hovering in the upper 50s to low 60s. Winds will be brisk out of the southwest, sustained at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts possibly reaching up to 35 mph.

Friday night will remain unseasonably mild. Overnight lows will only dip into the low to mid-50s, thanks to continued southwesterly flow and increasing cloud cover. A stray shower may brush parts of the region overnight, but most areas should stay dry.

On Saturday, filtered sunshine will persist as a cold front approaches from the northwest. However, most of the associated rain will bypass Sussex County, leaving the area largely dry. Inland highs are expected to soar into the low 80s, with cooler readings along the shore due to the onshore breeze.

By Saturday night into early Sunday morning, the front slips just south of the region, bringing slightly cooler and cloudier conditions. Temperatures will fall back into the low to mid-50s overnight, but any precipitation chances remain minimal. Sunday morning will start off partly cloudy and cooler, setting the stage for a more seasonable day.

Residents should take advantage of the dry and comfortable conditions for any weekend outdoor plans, but keep an eye on changing weather patterns heading into early next week.
