DELMARVA - Beachgoers and residents across Sussex County should brace for a damp and stormy stretch from early Friday through early Sunday as multiple systems bring repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms to the area.

Friday morning starts off humid with lingering overnight showers from a passing disturbance. Though a few breaks in the clouds are possible during the day, skies will remain mostly cloudy. Another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms is expected to develop by the afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center maintains a marginal risk for severe weather across the Delmarva Peninsula on Friday, with damaging wind gusts as the primary threat. Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 70s across beach towns such as Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach and Fenwick Island.

By Friday evening and into the night, a developing low-pressure system will ride northeast along a stalled front, bringing heavier and more widespread showers and thunderstorms to the region. Locally heavy rainfall is possible, and although widespread flooding is not expected, recent rainfall may leave some areas more vulnerable. Overnight lows will fall into the mid to upper 50s.

Saturday brings another round of potentially stormy weather. A stronger cold front will move in during the afternoon, triggering more widespread showers and thunderstorms. There is another chance for severe weather, especially across the southern portion of the peninsula, with damaging wind gusts again being the main concern. High temperatures will peak in the lower 70s before cooler air starts filtering in Saturday evening.

By Saturday night, conditions begin to dry out rapidly as the cold front pushes offshore. A refreshing northwest breeze will bring a notably cooler night to the region, with lows dipping into the 50s along the coast.

Early Sunday morning may still bring an isolated shower across Delmarva, but skies are expected to clear as the day progresses. By Sunday afternoon, the weather turns fair and more seasonable—setting the stage for a drier start to the week.
