DELMARVA - Tuesday begins with dry and seasonably cool weather across Sussex County, Delaware, as high pressure holds briefly over the region. Morning skies will feature a mix of clouds and sunshine, with temperatures rising steadily into the upper 60s to low 70s by the afternoon. Coastal areas will stay slightly cooler, especially if an onshore breeze develops later in the day.
Clouds will increase by late Tuesday afternoon and evening as a warm front approaches from the southwest. Though the daylight hours should remain mostly dry, moisture will steadily build in after sunset. By late Tuesday night, widespread rain is expected to overspread the county, marking the beginning of an extended stretch of wet weather.
Wednesday looks like a washout for Sussex County. Steady rain, embedded showers, and the possibility of a few thunderstorms will persist throughout the day. Rainfall totals could be significant—potentially a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch—with locally heavier amounts possible in storms. Skies will stay cloudy, and with the lack of sunshine, highs will struggle to get out of the 60s.
The unsettled weather will continue into early Thursday. Scattered showers and patchy drizzle are likely during the morning, gradually tapering off from west to east by midday or afternoon. While Thursday may not bring the same soaking rains as Wednesday, the persistent dampness and overcast skies will keep conditions cool and gloomy through much of the day.
Improvement is expected by Thursday night, with clearing skies and drier air filtering into the region as high pressure begins to reassert itself heading into Friday.
