DELMARVA -- Showers and thunderstorms will continue across the peninsula today, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall and localized flash flooding.
Rain and storm coverage is expected to increase during the afternoon and evening as a cold front approaches Delmarva. The region remains under a marginal risk, level 1 of 4, for excessive rainfall.

Many communities could receive between 1 and 2 inches of rain, while isolated locations could see totals of 3 to 4 inches. Flooding will be most likely in low-lying areas, places with poor drainage and communities repeatedly affected by storms.
Rainfall totals on the order of 0.50" to 2" with some locally higher amounts.
There is no organized severe weather risk, although an isolated storm could produce gusty winds and frequent lightning. Southwest winds outside of thunderstorms could gust between 25 and 30 mph.
Temperatures in the low to mid 80s, scattered showers and downpours through the afternoon.
Temperatures will reach the low to mid-80s despite the clouds and rain. Showers and storms should gradually move away tonight as the cold front crosses the peninsula. Skies will become partly cloudy, with overnight temperatures falling to around 70 degrees.
Tuesday should provide a temporary break from the stormy weather. Partly sunny skies are expected, with highs in the low 80s and winds coming from the east-northeast. Most of the daytime hours should remain dry.
A warm front will begin lifting across Delmarva Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing another round of showers and thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall could again become a concern because storms may move slowly and arrive before water from Monday’s rainfall has fully drained.
The possibility of damaging wind gusts Wednesday will depend on when the warm front moves through. A daytime passage would allow more instability to develop, increasing the potential for stronger storms.
Warm, humid and occasionally stormy weather will remain in place during the second half of the week. Persistent southwesterly winds will carry tropical moisture into Delmarva, leading to higher temperatures in the low 90s, uncomfortable humidity and daily chances for scattered afternoon or evening thunderstorms.
