DELMARVA - Sussex County residents and visitors can expect continued pleasant weather along Delaware’s coastal communities through late Wednesday, as high pressure remains the dominant weather feature offshore.

As of Tuesday afternoon, a 1024-millibar high-pressure system is firmly positioned over the Mid-Atlantic and will slowly drift eastward through Wednesday. By Wednesday evening, it is expected to settle about 200 miles off the Virginia and North Carolina coasts, keeping skies mostly clear across the region. Thanks to strong atmospheric subsidence, the likelihood of rain is virtually zero, and even afternoon cloud development will be limited.

Though no rain is in the forecast, elevated levels of smoke and haze are expected to linger over the area. However, impacts at the surface should remain minimal. Beachgoers in towns such as Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach, and Fenwick Island can expect comfortable conditions under hazy sunshine.

Temperatures on Wednesday are forecast to reach the 80s inland, with cooler readings in the 70s expected along the immediate coast due to marine influences. Winds will be light and variable, ideal for those spending time outdoors or on the sand.

By Wednesday night, high pressure will begin to slide farther out to sea, setting the stage for changes ahead. While dry conditions should persist into Thursday, a cold front will begin to approach from the west. This will eventually bring increasing cloudiness and a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms by the end of the week.

Until then, residents and tourists can enjoy another day of warm, stable beach weather before the pattern turns more unsettled heading into the weekend.
