DELMARVA - A warm and breezy end to the week will give way to unsettled weather overnight Friday into Saturday across the Mid-Atlantic, including Delmarva. A warm front lifting north this evening will bring increasing clouds and southerly winds, setting the stage for scattered showers and storms after 10 p.m.
Most of the overnight activity will focus near and northwest of I-95, but a few showers could reach coastal areas by daybreak Saturday. Rainfall amounts will vary widely, with most spots picking up between a quarter to half an inch, and isolated heavier totals north and west.
Saturday will start cloudy with some leftover showers, but winds will shift to the southwest and pick up through the day as a cold front approaches. Ahead of the front, temperatures will climb into the 70s with gusty winds up to 30 mph. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon, mainly from I-95 southeast toward the coast. While severe weather is unlikely, a few storms could produce brief heavy downpours, gusty winds, and small hail.
Showers will taper off late Saturday evening as drier and cooler air settles in. Sunday looks bright but cooler, with high temperatures struggling to reach the low to mid-60s under mostly sunny skies. Winds will stay brisk out of the northwest.
Weekend Allergy Forecast:
The combination of rain and a cold front will help lower pollen levels significantly Saturday into Sunday. Tree pollen levels, particularly from oak and maple, will drop to moderate levels by Sunday. Grass pollen remains low. Those with allergies can expect some relief, especially by Sunday afternoon.
Weekend Air Quality Forecast:
Air quality will remain generally good to moderate through the weekend. Friday and Saturday's breezy, unsettled conditions will keep pollutants dispersed. Sunday’s cooler, drier air will bring excellent air quality across the region.
Looking ahead into next week, high pressure will take control, leading to sunny skies and a warming trend with highs reaching the low to mid-80s by Tuesday and Wednesday.
