DELMARVA - Friday will begin warm and breezy along the Sussex County coast, following the passage of a warm front overnight. Morning lows in the low 60s will quickly climb under partial sunshine, setting the tone for a summerlike day. Onshore winds will gradually shift more southerly, keeping beach towns like Dewey and Fenwick cooler than inland locations, where highs may surge into the upper 80s.
Humidity will be noticeably higher throughout the day, with dew points rising into the mid-60s. This warm and muggy air mass will make outdoor conditions feel sticky, especially away from the shoreline.
While most of the daylight hours should remain dry, the atmosphere will become increasingly unstable late in the day as a slow-moving cold front inches closer from the west. Although widespread thunderstorms are unlikely before sunset, a few isolated showers or storms could pop up during the evening—especially inland.
Skies will become cloudier as the night progresses. Showers will become more likely during the late-night hours into early Saturday morning, with the highest rain chances north and west of the coastal areas. Thunderstorms are also possible overnight, although the severe threat remains low due to the timing and slower arrival of the front.
Overnight lows will remain elevated, only dipping into the low to mid-60s across coastal Sussex County. Rainfall amounts are expected to be light overall, though localized heavier pockets are possible with any embedded thunderstorms. Patchy fog may also develop in areas that receive early precipitation.
The slow-moving front will continue to affect the region Saturday, bringing a better chance of more organized showers and thunderstorms during the day. Conditions may briefly improve behind the front, but more unsettled weather looms early next week with the potential development of a coastal low.
